Geoffrey Bawa is not just a renowned architect in Sri Lanka, but is regarded as prolific in Asia itself. His designs were particularly a hit here because of their combination of outdoor in indoor spaces. This allowed for open-plans areas, making way for plenty of ventilation which in such a humid country is essential. In fact, his designs are easily noticeable, as they all follow a similar pattern. The Brief Garden however is not his work, but his older brother’s Bevis Bawa. Sprawling across 5 acres of land, there’s a dazzling array of trees and lush foliage that just shows how much care and dedication has gone into its construction. Though its owner is no more, the garden is as well-maintained as ever, and a haven for naturalists.
