Also dubbed the ‘Sea of Milk’, the Kandy Lake is an expansive man-made structure that was built by the last King, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe back in 1807. There are various legends and folklore associated with this lake, which makes for quite an interesting experience. What was once a stretch of paddy-fields is now frequented by visitors from all walks of life curious to glimpse one of the last remaining works of one of Sri Lanka’s most prolific kings. Lakeside seats that’ve been thoughtfully propped up around makes taking a leisurely stroll down here an absolute treat, although it’s probably not the quietest part of Kandy if you’re looking for tranquillity.
