As you might have guessed, this mountain range received its name after the knuckles of a clenched fist. Known as ‘Dumbara Mitiyawatha’ locally, this is a breath-taking sight from afar, with a host of natural delights wrapped in its landscape, all the while accompanied by a thin mist that makes it all the more enigmatic. Extending to around 200sqkm, the Knuckles mountain range is every traveller’s highlight, as it features a range of forest types, which in turn are home to a wonderful selection of flora and fauna. The one drawback is the leeches, which can be pesky if you don’t go prepared. Whilst leech socks are always an option, why not be prepared the local way too, armed with salt and soap which should be rubbed all over your legs and feet?
