The largest botanical gardens in Sri Lanka, the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are a famous attraction, and supposedly only meant for royalty once upon a time. Today, you see couples, families and individuals relaxing, strolling about and generally soaking in the verdant landscape made up of a multitude of different species of plants, some indigenous. Found just outside of Kandy, it spans 147-acres (60-hectares), and is home to some exotic species of plants from flowers to saplings and trees like The Cannonball tree, the Double Coconut Palm, and the Giant Bamboo of Burma to name a few. Visiting dignitaries such as Queen Elizabeth II have also planted trees of their own to commemorate their visit to Sri Lanka.
